Future has Tradition
In 1962 Kurt Kern founds the company KURT KERN Feinwerktechnik in Munich and establishes himself as a strong supplier to the rapidly upcoming High-Tech-Industry for highest precision components.
Kurt hands over the reigns to his son Günter in 1981, at which time IBM challenges KERN with an application that pushes the company to its technical limits. There was simply no machine on the market that could fulfil the precision accuracy requirements for this job.
"Nothing is impossible"
Instead of declining the contract job from IBM, Günter develops his own machine – the foundation stone for the success story of KERN machine building has been laid. Contract manufacturing also profits form this technology: Thanks to the development of their own machines KERN becomes a specialist for high precision manufacturing into nanoscale.
In 1987 the entrepreneur founds KERN Microtechnik in Murnau, in 1992 both companies are merged to form KERN Micro- und Feinwerktechnik GmbH & Co.KG. In 1999 a second extension is built to increase capacity. In 2007 the Machine Building Department moves into the new factory in Eschenlohe.
