A Modular Platform for FPP Automation

The SAMBA Series comprises fully automated production systems based on Fiber Patch Placement (FPP) technology. They work with a wide range of materials — dry fibers and prepregs (carbon, glass, adhesives, coppermesh…) — enabling the manufacture of composite parts with complex 3D geometries.

Common Architecture

Every SAMBA system is built around three modules:

  • A material feeding and cutting unit (GFM ultrasonic cutting, camera inspection of each patch)
  • One or more 6-axis placement robots, equipped with a dedicated Cevotec gripper
  • A tool holder and manipulator with quick-mount systems, for flexible production set-ups

Control is handled by a Siemens SIMATIC PLC, with fully automated offline robot programming enabled by the digital twin integrated in ARTIST STUDIO.

Three Configurations for Your Application

SAMBA Pro PV — Composite Tanks

Two feeding units and two 6-axis robots enable simultaneous patching of both tank domes. Parts up to 3 m in length, self-corrective positioning, cycle time optimized for high-volume production.

SAMBA Pro Multi — Multi-Material Aerostructures

Long-reach robot with linear rail and automated gripper exchange. A force-torque sensor enables controlled placement, including on honeycomb cores. Parts of 3 x 2 m and larger, compatible with adhesives, insulation layers and lightning strike protection materials.

SAMBA Step L — R&D and Prototyping

One 6-axis robot (linear rail optional), fed with pre-cut patches from a table, with an automation level adjustable to development needs.

The SAMBA Step Retrofit Kit

Since May 2026, the range has expanded with a new way to access FPP technology: the SAMBA Step Retrofit Kit, designed to bring Robotic Lamination capabilities to existing robot cells rather than requiring investment in a complete system.

It relies on three building blocks:

  • cevoGripper — end effector adaptable to part geometry and process material
  • cevoVision — real-time vision-based quality control (tolerance checks, foreign object detection, position correction)
  • SAMBA_OS + ARTIST STUDIO — machine control (compatible with Kuka via MxAutomation, other brands via SRCI) and offline robot programming

A modular, scalable solution that lets you introduce automation step by step.

  • Compatible materials: dry fibers and prepregs (carbon, glass, adhesives, coppermesh…)
  • Areal weight: 80 to 300 gsm
  • Patch sizes: 20×40 mm to 200×300 mm
  • Part size: up to 3 m (SAMBA Pro PV) / 3 x 2 m and larger (SAMBA Pro Multi)
  • PLC: Siemens SIMATIC
  • Software: ARTIST STUDIO (digital twin, offline programming)
  • Retrofit Kit robot compatibility: Kuka (MxAutomation), other brands (SRCI)
