Global leader in wire arc additive manufacturing solutions

WAAM3D is a British company specializing in developing comprehensive solutions for metal additive manufacturing using wire arc deposition (Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing – WAAM). Built on more than 20 years of R&D conducted in partnership with Cranfield University, among others, WAAM3D offers an integrated ecosystem covering hardware, software, materials, and project support.

WAAM technology enables the fabrication of large-scale metal parts using a metal wire melted by an electric arc. It is designed for manufacturers seeking to produce large parts, reduce lead times, and control material costs.

WHY WAAM?

The WAAM process stands out from other metal additive manufacturing technologies due to its performance with large parts and high-value-added materials:

  • Large parts – build volume up to 2 × 2 × 2 m (RoboWAAM);
  • High-performance materials – Titanium, stainless steel, aluminum, bronze, nickel, Inconel;
  • Reduced material costs – No forging tools or molds required, near-net-shape parts;
  • Shorter lead times – End-to-end digital workflow, from CAD to finished part;
  • Forging-like mechanical properties – Patented cold consolidation process (patent pending);
  • Relocation and inventory management – Local production of critical parts and spare parts management.

MATERIALS & CONSUMABLES

WAAM3D develops and markets its own metal wires, specifically formulated for the WAAM process. These wires feature tailored chemical compositions that ensure consistent deposition, optimized mechanical properties, and full traceability.

  • Structural steel and stainless steel
  • Aluminum and aluminum alloys
  • Titanium (Ti-6Al-4V and other grades)
  • Nickel and superalloys (Inconel)
  • Bronze and copper alloys
  • Wire development to customer specifications available

APPLICATION SECTORS

  • Aerospace & Defense – Complex titanium structures, reduction of the buy-to-fly ratio
  • Energy, Oil & Gas – Large parts, repairs, critical spare parts
  • Marine & Nuclear – Propellers, flanges, large-scale components made of bronze or stainless steel
  • Mining & Extraction – Heavy equipment, wear parts, repair of massive components
  • Construction & Civil Engineering – Optimized structural joints, steel connections (e.g., lightweight gantries)
  • Research & Universities – Open architecture, access to raw data, materials R&D
