Formlabs created the world’s first affordable, high resolution stereolithography 3D printer in the Form 1+ and they improved upon their award-winning machine with the Form 2, the Form 3 in 2019 and the Form 3 L in 2020. With an intuitive, stylish and robust design, all Formlabs printers are perfect for rapid prototyping and end-use parts.
FORMLABS 3D printers have become top-sellers in the SLA category and we’re just getting started. Their ambitions haven’t stopped expanding since their beginnings in a Cambridge basement in 2011—they have since grown into a 22,000 square foot headquarters in Somerville and an office in Berlin. They have built a team of over 400 across the world, and still counting.
Formlabs, instead, targeted professionals who needed more precise parts for more complicated 3-D printing projects. “We were the first company to realize that the potential wasn’t with a mass consumer product, but with taking this powerful technology and bringing it to professional engineers and designers,” Lobovsky said. Its Form 1 printer (and the newer iterations it has introduced since then) use a process called stereolithography in which liquid resin is hardened by lasers.
